Minutes

The minutes were approved as corrected: Crime Prevention: no report in December.  Merchant Happenings The former Ramekin Café (replacing Urban Grounds) is now Artemis Foods Café 

 

Treasurer’s Report

Check book balance is $8966.51.  Susan Levine moved that the balance of the $1500.00 Holiday Grant (after the SE Examiner ad, bows and fax invitation to the Annual Meeting) be paid to Rin Carroll Jackson for her graphic design work on the dues and annual meeting invitation.  Seconded and passed. The amount will depend on what is owed to Division Hardware. 

 

Crime  Prevention

There was massive graffiti at Abernathy School last weekend, the worst of which was removed before the children came back on Monday.  HAND & RNA will be working on a community clean-up project.  HAND feels they could better use their list serve for Crime Prevention communication.

 

Annual Meeting

Several restaurants on Division and Clinton are providing the food.

The elections will be held first, the State of the Street Report will be given, Commissioner Adams will speak.  There will be a silent auction, too.

 

Merchant Happenings

Priced Right at 12th has lost their lease.

The 30th & Division land-use decision by LUBA will not be made until February.

Carpe Vinum is gone.  Nothing is happening at the property on 48th & Division, and it is tied up in limbo.

All the retail spaces at 26th & Division are filled.

The former Red & Black building at 22nd still has space.

The Eichenger project at west 26th is currently off.

Ease:  4823 SE Division.  Custom made furniture, art work, antiques, Etsy.com.  March 1st to April 1st opening.  Elizabeth asked about Signage rules.  Was told to go to www.Portlandonline.com  .

One Inch Round:  4016 SE Division, Scott Hay.  Makes buttons and sells by mail order, handles licensing to get into retail stores.  Looking forward to being on Division.

 

RNA

Richmond Neighborhood Assn. received an $1100 Community building project grant to make a movie in Sewellcrest Park.

 

HAND

They need a chairperson.  They want a joint meeting with schools regarding green features, land-use issues and how to communicate for emergencies.  An Abernathy WPA mural from the depression era was found under six coats of paint in the library.  They want to do a major restoration, $150,000 estimate.  It is the history of Oregon all around the room.  Fundraising to follow.  There are working drawings from 1939.  Portland Public Schools is working to do an inventory of their hidden art.

They want to converse before the Portland Plan rolls out:  January 28th @ SE Uplift .

The Division Transportation citizens group is meeting on the 16th at St. Philip Neri.  We are looking at the commute lanes

Art Pearce, with Portland Transportation Planning, is the new Division project plan manager.  $2.5 million is allocated plus $2 million more in SDC funds.

 

APNBA

Grant ceremony – January 28th.  Katherine will attend.  Susan moved we pay her way, seconded and passed. APNBA will start putting all board members on the communication lists.

 

Nominating Committee

Glenn, Rin, and Craig are up for election. 

Suggestions for award recipients.  Katherine’s list will be sent out again.

Auction Items – Oregon Ki Society, Solo Flamenco dancing lessons, Artemis Foods, Zenana Spa, Legare’s, Division Hardware, Sub Rosa, Mirador, Marty Eichenger, Bliss, Beads @ Dusty Creek, Americana Family Insurance, and more.

 

Teddy Keizer – running for this area’s house district.  Loves the vibrancy of this area.

 

BDA Buddies

John, Katherine, and Karin, BABA, D/CBA and HBBA Presidents respectively, have been meeting regularly and collaborating on staffing responsibilities, officer and director job descriptions, etc.  They are concentrating on helping each other work smarter not harder.  Basically, learning from each other.

HBBA networking – gives $100 to the host to defray costs.

 

Grant Request

Joe submitted the grant request for web design and updates.  Hot Pepper has committed to do the work if we get the funds.  Scott mentioned the Web 2.0 theory – provide a place for other people to update the site.  Scott Hay will volunteer to help design the web site and could host it.

 

SE Artwalk

90+ artists paid to date.  Cut off date January 16th for businesses.  First weekend of March, 45 or so locations hosted.  They still need an advertising budget.  The bank crisis has hurt them.  www.SEPortlandArtwalk.com .
