The committee appointed by the Mayor to research street renaming has recommended that Broadway and Grand be removed from the list of eligible streets, leaving 39th Avenue the only candidate. Both the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Associations and the Portland Business Alliance have indicated that they are against renaming any existing street and urge the City find some other way to honor individuals, such as a bridge, park, or new building. The City Commissioners will decide some time in May. Correction - Rad Summer moved to 28th and Burnside.
Twill is moving from 60th and Division to 22nd. Lovecraft Biofuels at 12th is gone. Blue turtle Acupuncture is gone. Doctor of Osteopathy Kevin Kane, specializing in rehabilitative medicine, replaced Body of Being at 3303 SE Division. LB Market changed hands and Brezza Properties, the new owners, are upgrading the building and upstairs apartments. They hope to put a mural of the area’s history on one of their walls. Kim’s Auto Center at 28th is increasingly vandalized by graffiti. Neon Threads at 41st has left. The Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association and the Regional Fish Initiatives, part of the Pew Environmental Trust, have joined Oceana at 4189 SE Division.
Little Blue Waffle Wagon at 33rd and Division added a canopy and a tiny seating area. Their waffles are portable, wrapped like a gyro around your choice of additions. They are open from 9 – 3 most days.
It’s time to start planning for the July 25th Street Fair and Parade where ingenuity and creativity will probably stand in for funds for many businesses.
